Marjorie Taylor Greene accuses Maxine Waters of being the “Commander” of a Black terrorist group

The Republican Party can be expected to make any racial issue in America worse. When they’re not propelling a bigot like Donald Trump into the Oval Office and flirting with white nationalism, they’re gaslighting the entire country by claiming that racism simply doesn’t exist anymore. When it comes to the campaign of terror being waged against communities of terror by militarized police forces that repeatedly prove all too eager to use deadly force, Republicans side with the cops rather than their victims. Not surprisingly, many conservatives are supporting former police officer Derek Chauvin, the man currently on trial for the murder of George Floyd.

The Chauvin case has its closing arguments today and it’s still unclear how the jury will decide. The stakes are clear. If Chauvin is acquitted, police across the country will be sent yet another message that they can kill Black people with impunity and we will likely see nationwide protests.

Over the weekend, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) drew criticism from Republicans for urging Americans to demand racial justice.

“We’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business,” said Waters.

“I hope we’re going to get a verdict that will say guilty, guilty, guilty. And if we don’t, we cannot go away,” she added.

Her reasonable remarks were immediately twisted by conservatives trying to paint her as calling for violence. The self-evident truth is that “confrontational” doesn’t mean violent. Quite the opposite, Waters was telling Americans to confront the violence being inflicted on communities of color by demanding change.

Now, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has launched a Twitter attack on Waters. The woman known as the “QAnon Congresswoman” has a terrible history when it comes to racial issues and used her platform to denounce Waters as the “Commander of the BLM domestic terror army.” Anyone with even a handful of functioning brain cells knows that Black Lives Matter is not a terrorist group but rather an organization created to stop the wave of police brutality disproportionately affecting Black Americans.

Greene went on to concern troll about damage to businesses and rioting, an ironic tactic given her support of Donald Trump even after he incited the deadly Capitol insurrection. The tweet, which was dripping in bad faith, ended with her calling for Maxine Water to be expelled from Congress. It wasn’t a racist dog whistle, it was a bullhorn.

There is, of course, no chance that she will be removed by the Democratically-controlled House and Speaker Pelosi has already defended Waters from the Republican assault. What we should really be discussing is the expulsion of Greene herself since her dangerous conspiracy theories pose a legitimate threat to our Republic.
