MAGA MELTDOWN: Crowd at Wyoming Trump rally turns on GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy

BUSTED SPEAKER: Music for McCarthy as he watches the Speakership slip through his fingers

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-WY) faced a hostile reaction from the MAGA faithful at Trump’s Casper, Wyoming rally this weekend. McCarthy was stumping for Trump-backed Harriet Hageman in her bid to unseat current Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) and was booed immediately after beginning his speech.

McCarthy has had a tenuous relationship with Trump and his MAGA hordes ever since stating publicly that Trump bore responsibility for the Capitol Riot – and its resulting violence – that occurred on January 6th, 2021. The House GOP leader walked back those statements, going so far as to fly to Mar-a-Lago to genuflect to Trump shortly after he initially made them, but his fall from grace with the former president had already begun.

Despite sending a video in support of the very Trumpy Hageman, McCarthy recently saw tapes of conversations between himself and Hageman’s opponent Rep. Liz Cheney leaked recently. In them, McCarthy can be heard discussing the impeachment of Trump for his role in Jan. 6th with his colleague.

“The only discussion I would have with [Trump] is that I think [impeachment] will pass, and it would be my recommendation you should resign,” McCarthy can be heard telling Cheney.

McCarthy has continuously denied making such statements, despite the audio proof. The damage, however, is done.

Cheney is a persona-non-grata with the Wyoming Republican Party, stripped of her affiliation after voting to impeach Donald Trump. She has been censured by the Republican National Committee for her role in the January 6th investigation as one of only two Republicans on the barely bi-partisan committee. So, it’s no surprise that McCarthy’s conversations with her in the days following the riot would be considered especially egregious to die-hard Trumpers.

Trump’s Saturday rally, held at the Fort Wyoming Center, featured taped speeches from Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Cheney’s replacement as Republican Chair, from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) – who called Cheney “the swamp” – and from Rep. Jim Jordon (R-OH). Never one to miss a MAGA gathering, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) attended in person and told the crowd, “I run my mouth a lot, and I give God glory.” Her speech ended with cheers.

Even Trump sycophant, the MyPillow founder Mike Lindell, got a warmer reception than McCarthy. Lindell took the time to bash Cheney saying, “Liz Cheney is leading the pack to block everything,” although he didn’t say what “everything” is. He also unsurprisingly criticized the use of voting machines, telling the crowd in the fashion of an actual Luddite, “We need to terminate the machines everywhere. Bye-bye machines.”

Kicking off the “Save America Rally” was the Chairman of the Wyoming Republican Party, Frank Eathorne, who, according to Cowboy State Daily, said “he would run through a barbed wire fence” for Trump. Eathorne was present at Trump’s riot inciting speech at the Ellipse on January 6th, and The Independent reported Eathorne is a member of the far-right militia group, The Oath Keepers.

It seems McCarthy would have been better off not participating. When an uneducated Congresswoman, a representative under investigation for child sex trafficking, and an unhinged pillow salesman get a better reception than you – the writing is on the proverbial wall. And further proves that not only does Trump not forgive but that MAGA doesn’t forget.
