In this clip, President Obama pokes fun at abrasive business mogul Donald Trump’s presidential aspirations for his utter lack of qualifications, his tendency to offer ridiculous things that will never come to fruition, and reaffirms his faith in the American people to make the right choice that’s best for our nation.
“I continue to believe Mr. Trump will not be president. And the reason is because I have a lot of faith in the American people. I think they recognize that being President is a very serious job. It’s not hosting a talk show, or a reality show. It’s not promotion, it’s not marketing. It’s hard and a lot of people count on us getting it right. Sometimes it requires you making hard decisions even when people don’t like it. Doing things that are unpopular, and standing up for people who are vulnerable but don’t have a powerful political constituency. And it requires working with leaders around the world in a way that reflects the importance of the office, and gives people confidence that you know that facts, and you know their names, and you know where they are on a map, and you know a little of their history. “
Donald Trump’s campaign has taken on the character of its reality-star host: lots of soundbytes but little substance, lots of promises with no way to deliver. He offers racial, ethnic and religious division instead of unity, crassness instead of statesmanship, bullying instead of compromise. After eight years of President Obama’s incredible achievements, one shudders to think of what a Trump presidency might look like. In a field of men uniquely unfit to lead anything at all, he might be the worst of the lot – or is it Cruz? The fact that that’s a question at all should tell you all you need to know about the Republican Primary.
